Symptom recognition

Does This Sound Familiar?

POTS and dysautonomia can present differently from person to person. Patients who contact Axon may be experiencing symptoms such as:

Dizziness or lightheadedness when standing
Rapid heart rate when upright
Exercise intolerance
Fatigue
Brain fog
Near-fainting or fainting episodes
Temperature regulation difficulties
GI symptoms
Poor tolerance for prolonged standing
Blood pooling
Sleep disruption
Headaches
Sensitivity to physical or cognitive exertion

Your symptoms do not need to look exactly like someone else's for an evaluation to be appropriate.

Axon's approach

POTS Can Involve More Than One System

Autonomic symptoms may interact with neurological function, physical conditioning, vestibular function, metabolic health and other systems. Axon's integrative model allows clinicians to evaluate the patient more broadly, rather than assuming every person with POTS needs the same treatment.

Clinical Neuroscience

Autonomic and neurological function, balance, eye movements, vestibular function and related neurological findings.

Functional Medicine

Relevant metabolic, nutritional, inflammatory, gastrointestinal or other physiological factors may be considered when clinically appropriate.

Physical Medicine

Movement, breathing mechanics, strength, musculoskeletal function and physical capacity may be evaluated.

Human Performance

For appropriate patients, care may include strategies aimed at safely rebuilding physical tolerance, capacity and resilience.

Your evaluation determines which areas are relevant to you.
The evaluation

Your Care Starts With Understanding Your Case

Your initial process may include:

Detailed medical and symptom history
Neurological examination
Orthostatic and autonomic assessment
Balance and vestibular evaluation
Eye movement / oculomotor assessment
Movement and physical capacity evaluation
Review of existing medical records or imaging
Additional diagnostic testing when clinically appropriate
Laboratory evaluation when appropriate

You do not need to know which treatment you need.

That is the purpose of the evaluation. Your responsibility is simply to tell Axon what you're experiencing — our clinicians will determine what's appropriate from there.
